According to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) there are about 50,000 pregnant women affected by the earthquake with some of them facing potentially life-thretaening complications to their pregnancies. The official death toll from the earthquake in Nepal reached over 5,000 on 29 April, with 1,448 of the fatalities recorded in the capital Kathmandu. More movement was visible on the streets as people who had spent days in terror since 25 April's 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck ventured out, to buy essentials or to go to work despite the fear provoked by numerous aftershocks.
